The Quasar team, comprising young Yessenov University researchers Yeskendir Kydyrbayev and Yryszhan Sansyzbay, participated in the competition with an innovative environmental monitoring project, secured second place, and received a cash prize of KZT 2,000,000!
The young researchers presented Caspian Monitor, a continuous environmental monitoring system for the Caspian Sea based on a LoRaWAN network.
The project enables the continuous collection of data on the environmental condition of the Caspian Sea, its remote transmission, and real-time monitoring through a dedicated digital dashboard. LoRaWAN technology allows data to be transmitted over long distances with low energy consumption, helping to ensure effective monitoring of both coastal areas and the marine environment.
The team developed a fully functional MVP version of the project. The system can be launched with a single command, providing access to the monitoring dashboard and API documentation within minutes.
The project’s scientific results were obtained within the framework of programme-targeted funding for the scientific and technical programme BR24992964 “Development of Integrated Energy-Saving Technologies to Enhance the Environmental Sustainability and Efficiency of Offshore Operations in the Kazakhstan Sector of the Caspian Sea.” A startup project based on this solution is currently being developed.
This achievement marks an important step in transforming scientific research results into a practical digital solution aimed at strengthening the environmental safety of the Caspian Sea.
